Dr. Peter Harris, MHNet Behavioral Health’s Corporate Medical Director, is responsible for medical direction and approval of the Quality Management, Utilization Review and Credentialing activities. Dr. Harris joined MHNet in 1994.
Dr. Harris is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Adult Psychiatry), and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He has taught biology at the university level for pre-medical students as well as teaching medical students and psychiatric residents. He has been involved in many research studies and is responsible for co-authoring numerous publications primarily in biological sciences.
Dr. Harris has held numerous Medical Director positions over the years and been awarded faculty appointments at Dartmouth Medical School, SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. In addition to working for MHNet, Dr. Harris is currently Corporate Medical Director for Meridian Behavioral Health, a three hospital health care system in New Jersey. He is the Chairman of Psychiatry at Jersey Shore University Hospital and also serves as Vice Chairman of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Psychiatry for Meridian Health. He currently holds the rank of Associate Clinical Professor at the medical school.
Dr. Harris earned his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1975. That same year he received a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the same institution. His post-graduate training included an Adult Psychiatry Residency at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
