Mr. Bates has over 12 years of experience in the behavioral health industry. He is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of MHNet. Mr. Bates offers a wealth of management experience and experience within the behavioral health industry.

Prior to being named CEO of MHNet, Mr. Bates joined Coventry Health Care in May 2007 as the Senior Vice President of the Specialty Business Division. He was charged with bringing new businesses to Coventry to strengthen Coventry’s core products and services while also enabling the company to diversify its’ portfolio of capabilities. Before joining Coventry, Mr. Bates was the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for United Behavioral Health where he ran the Health Plan, Employer and Government Programs businesses. Mr. Bates has also held executive positions at Cigna HealthCare and Oxford Health Plans.

Mr. Bates earned his Master’s in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business in 1996. He received his bachelor’s degree from Williams College in 1991.
